Many props go to the packers, however you are comparing apple to oranges. the NBA and NFL are 2 completely if not opposite monsters. Stern and his ego driven dictatorship found success during the rise of the Jordan marketing monster and has catered to the big cities and big stars ever since. The NFL has chosen to go for parody, and an equal financial playing field for all. and is imo why the nfl is the juggernaut and the NBA is the wannabe.

The NBA and NFL both sport salary caps and revenue sharing, so that part is about the same. The new repeater tax should curb the softness of the NBA cap, but the NBA did the salary resctrictions on rookies well before the NFL.

Really, this is a team signing two fading players, one to a minimum type deal, and one to less money than he could have gotten elsewhere. That's not on David Stern, that's on the players for being willing to accept less money.

I mean, it's not like there isn't stacked teams in the NFL. The Packers, Steelers, and Patriots have had long runs of success in the free agency era, and teams like the Cowboys and Redskins, and just last year the Eagles, have gone out and collected star players. So you have teams perennially on the top, some perennial bottom dwellers like the Rams..how is that much different from the NBA?

The biggest factor is the impact a single player can make in the NBA. Get yourself a Jordan, Kobe, Tim Duncan, what have you, and you'll likely be good for as long as you have him...even with a star with a bad supporting cast can carry his team to the playoffs. In the NFL you can have the very best player and still lose constantly with bad talent around him.
