I used to live in Saudi before and back then, there were a lot of butcher shops. What I've heard is that a lot, if not all, of the butcher shops have had live chickens removed from them due to a government mandate and this was even before the H5N1 bird flu pandemic. Before, you'd go to a butcher shop, the butcher would pick the chicken from the cages and then slaughter it in front of you.
But even then, these restaurants used to cook the brazilian chicken as it is cheaper!
