I know some family members who are looking to buy restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, takeaways, launderettes and dry cleaners but they want to have very little involvement with the business and leave the running of the business to the staff with some occasional visits. Does anybody have any suggestions/ideas/experience in this regard

They can make partnership firm with one working partner and they being sleeping partner. Else they can hire a good manager and give him salary based on % of profit. Just living business into the hands of staff is dangerous.
