Uh oh! Is the second statement true? Who passed away this past Bright Week? It is a very common belief that to die during Bright Week is A Spiritually Good Thing - to leave this life on Pascha itself is Even Better. I don't think it's simply a pious custom, either. The service for funerals conducted during Bright Week is very different from the normal funeral service. Most of the usual penitential, sombre language is replaced by selections from the Resurrection services. That has to count for something. :-)

Also I read that by having a candle burning in front of an icon for one day you have one day in Heaven. This sounds uncomfortably similar to Roman Catholic indulgences.
