Why do I get the feeling after this week's meetings, that an agreement is not right around the corner?

College football will be on time.
The CFL regular season just started.

That will keep me going until these fools can agree.

I am not sure what you are picking up on.

Nothing is being said (which is positive in its own right!).

I think what has come out of this week points towards positive things so much more than negative things.

Here is what I have heard. Negotiations were going good, at least that is what rumors said. The agreement I heard was that the NFL was going to give players up to 48% of the revenue. Now things are sliding backwards, and the word is that players could get as low as 45%. So there is a bit of the contention growing now.
, but both sides are still trying to work toward a deal
Whether that is true or not, I am not sure. It is all rumors that I have read though.

And in a PR coup, the NFL could have this done not just right in time for the holiday weekend, but also right on time for the NBA lockout.
Yup.

Good point there. But I would think that they would get better press if they just got the shit done.

Default Are you ready for some football?
It looks like my prediction was about a week early, but the lawyers are together in Minnesota this week, with just De Smith and Goodell in the room with them. That's a sign that negotiations are pretty much done and they are now working on the actual legal documents, which would put them farther ahead than I could have ever hoped at this point. And being in Minnesota puts them in position to quickly file the paperwork with the court system upon completion.

Best sign of all: Goodell and Smith flew out of Minnesota last night and flew back together today. What was in Florida? The NFLPA's Rookie Symposium (They put it on his year rather than the NFL due to the lockout) at which Goodell spoke to the rookies.

If that's not a clear sign that we are out of the woods, I don't know what is.

Maybe the NBA could get a copy of the NFL papers and do a universal find and replace NFL with NBA, print it out and be way ahead of the game.

The NBA's issues go a lot farther beyond just a simple splitting of the money, though. They are in for a long, nasty fight.

Just the fact that the owner's last proposal called for them to keep the players escrow money pretty much tells you what you need to know about how far apart the two sides are.

And..... not so fast. Mr. Ugly Face (DeMaurice Smith) said to some players that the pending agreement is not as close as the press is saying.

And the war goes on.

The fuck you talkin about Sir? That might be sweet for ya'll down yonder in there Texas but us Northern folk enjoy the summer when we have it. Don't take it away from us yet, it just snowed here last week for crying out loud.

OK.....so I am going to set the over/under on announced agreement at July 8.

While I think it is going to resolve quickly I am taking the over....slightly.

What say you?
