or in other words...chump change to the NFL.
I.e. a quarter of a team, cap-wise.

I'l bet they are going to push for a team in LA. If they drop the practice squad, they only need to save another 60 mil...

Those practice squad guys get $4700 a week. 256 players, 1.2 mil per week. I don't know if they get paid for a bye week, so 16 weeks = 19.25 mil in practice squad salaries.

Default No More Practice Squads?
NFL | No More Practice Squads? - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 2 Jun 2005 18:58:46 -0700

John Czarnecki, of FoxSports.com, reports the NFL is apparently considering doing away with the ability of teams to carry eight-man practice squads. It would be hard to imagine the NFLPA would sit still and watch the league take away 256 jobs just because they are in a collective bargaining renewal fight with the NFL at the present.

It would also effect draft picks. If they dump the practice squads whats the point of the 6-7th rounds of the draft. A lot of those guys go to the practice squad and later through hard work and good coaching making an NFL team. Some good players have come from practice squads. I think it would be a mistake. Thats just me though.

I really like the idea of practice squads. Give 8 guys on each team (256 players) who normally wouldn't be on the team a chance to make it. In fact, I like the idea so much, I think it should be in the next madden. If anything, they should allow teams to have 10 practice squad guys, not abolish it.

Or, just increase active roster spots.
