I recommend to people that they take their computer to a Geek Squad location (like they have in BestBuy) under a false identity, and have them do a full cleaning of any new computer before they even turn it on.
Now people may ask, "Why do this, if the computer has never been used, and therefore has no viruses or spyware running on it?"
There is already SPYWARE implanted into your new computer when you buy it--at least if you bought ANY Dell computer.
One of my cousins works for Dell, and has inside knowledge that Dell automatically installs software into each new computer manufactured that allows Dell to track the internet activity of each computer.
They then sell this information to telemarketing firms, companies related to your internet search activities, etc.
Bros, I wouldn't print this info if I didn't know it as fact. If you call up GeekSquad and ask them about this, they will even verify this happens, and that it is a dirty little secret of Dell.
How do you think they keep the cost of each computer so low?
Well, they make a great deal of money BACK on each computer sold, thanks to their unsuspecting customers who provide them with information that Dell then can sell to advertisers, which help to increase Dell's profit margins and REDUCE the cost of each Dell computer.

Good info !Thanks Fat nick
i always build my own PC's, but the two laptops i bought got a full clean format and fresh install of windows first....
i dont know what geek squad charges for spyware removal, but it may be cheaper to purchase a copy of windows xp and do a format yourself.... even cheaper if you have a corporate version of xp :)
you wont lose anything cause its a brand new pc ya know.....
the only dowbfall to that is you may lose some kind of warranty you have. i dont know on that
