Depending on the state you live in, they fall within the same category as radar detectors:

Legal only if used for non-illegal purposes, LOL. The vast majority of the people who own a police scanner or radar detector are using it to evade the law in one way or another, but because there are actually many curiosity seekers who like to listen to police scanners, they are not banned.

Bottom line: Just use your discretion in using these items if you are going to use them to protect yourself in "The Game" :)

Go to website www.2600.com, or purchase the small, handbook-looking magazine called 2600 Hackers Quarterly at a major bookstore like Barnes and Nobles. It's printed every quarter, hence the title.

It's a guide for hackers and crackers, and in the classified section, there are a couple of companies that sell listings of EVERY channel and frequency used by LE.

I bought this info myself but it's at my crib, and I'm using a university computer right now;)
