WASHINGTON - Under withering attack from conservatives,
President Bush ended his push to put loyalist Harriet Miers on the Supreme Court Thursday and promised a quick replacement. Democrats accused him of bowing to the "radical right wing of the Republican Party."

The White House said Miers had withdrawn her name because of a bipartisan effort in Congress to gain access to internal documents related to her role as counsel to the president. I could see this a 100 miles away. Take Meirs...throw her to the wolves of the left and right... let them fill their bellies... then nominate the person you really wanted in. It's exactly what I would have done.

I think you are giving them WAY to much credit. Regardless I do like the outcome. I would have prefered Janice Rogers Brown (well known libertarian/conservative) but still a good pick.

I'm not giving them too much credit at all. Politics were not born yesterday and the people the President has surrounding him are very skilled at it.

Certainly she had to be quite disapointed about the turn of events. It is a high honor to be a supreme court justice. :(
