I lost count, but the was in Iraq has cost the US so far trillions?
The war is for oil, which is a finite energy resource.

I wonder how far they would have gotten if they would have spent all those $ on developing alternate energy sources? And there would be no reliance on other countries resources.

That's a good point, Big A. The problem is that even though we have known for a long time that the gas/oil supply would eventually run out, we kept putting off developing new methods. Now, to develop a truly equal alternative to gas engines and get them mass produced and distrubuted to everyone the way cars are now would take around 15 years or so...even with all those trillions of dollars. Of course, we can't risk being without transportation and military for 15 years, so we have to get oil. Hopefully this will all at least get them off their asses and producing cars that run on something else.

Also, the oil companies have done their part to make sure that no fuel alternatives can replace oil. Big oil is a powerful bitch. They aren't about to step back and let some other fuel take over.
