erm yes.. 2. in the bathroom -lol- they're from Jamaica when we went in Sept on our cruise. The bathroom is a bit "islandy/ocean" themed, so i figure they fit pretty well.

Casual printing? Costco all the way. Cheap and their printing (at least at my store) is pretty awesome
Professional printing: whcc

I would like to hang more of my art in my house honestly, but i seriously freaking hate choosing something.

I still have my free COD canvas print. It's sitting in the bedroom on the floor right now. I just honestly have NO IDEA where to put it

Well, the way I see it, Regardless of whether or not I'm a good photographer, beautiful things exist and I sometimes take pictures of them. I would have no problem hanging my work on my walls, it's cheaper than buying prints.

That being said I'm so cheap that I don't really print my work unless it's for a gift. (Last year everyone got Portraits of my sister since it was her Senior year in HS)

Fantastic printing options without all the hoopla of whcc is

http://iprintfromhome.com/

I've had lots of prints done here as well. I like their different options of paper and finishes etc.

I haven't hung any of my photos, but just a few weeks ago I made a folder on my desktop and started a collection of my stuff to print and frame. My walls are bare and I've been fussing over what to hang, so fuck it. I'm hanging MY stuff!

Absolutely! Six to be exact. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

Misebeita 01-07-2010 11:30 AM

You know, despite the fact that it feels weird to have them up there, I am waiting on another 12x18. I don't know where it will live, but I'm finding that you need to print BIG when you hang them.

Misebeita 06-30-2010 07:59 PM

Do you hang your own photos?

Do you have your photos printed and hang them on your walls? And is it a symptom of excessive vanity to do so? I'm curious as to whether anyone has any of their own photos hanging.

Cnbaapuy 06-30-2010 09:45 PM

I have my own hanging, yep. I don't think it's vain to be proud of your work. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

Misebeita 06-30-2010 10:04 PM

I have a bunch of photos of my kids hanging (but that's different). Aside from that, I have about five photos hanging in out of the way places in my house. It feels a little weird to put them up, and I'm not sure why.

Cnbaapuy 06-30-2010 10:20 PM

I've got 9 hanging, 1 that needs to be hung, and 3 more little collages that I've done of the kids in the hallway outside of their bedrooms. About half of those that are hanging were printed out and framed for photography contests at various points, so I figured why not. One is a pretty large pano on canvas that I got free from Canvas On Demand, and lives over my aquarium in my bedroom. I dunno. For a long time I didn't hang anything, and I got tired of looking at bare walls, so it was a happy medium.

I have a few up (i'm just an amateur photographer though), there's 4 10x8s in my mums lounge, and in the flat we have a 20x8 print and two 20x16s, with a few 8x6 waiting to go up.

They're of places or things that we like, so putting them up to brighten up the home is nice - though it did take me a while to come round to the idea it wasn't vain yeah! But, i have come round to that idea, and i do like having some of my pictures up http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

(Plus we have up a 30x20 print on the wall i did in 2007 of 365 pictures, a photo every day put together to make a giant poster montage print thingy. I'm so used to it being on the wall forgot about it in my list, so i'm editing it in!)

nicegirlflor 06-30-2010 11:29 PM

I'm not a professional photographer like you guys, but I do display snapshots I take and I do hang my own art. Not exclusively- I've collected a fair amount of work by other artists and most of it hangs with a few pieces of mine mixed in.

As far as your photographs go, I don't understand why it would feel vain. The photos were taken to capture or connect with a particular moment, being or thing. How could you not want to hang some of those animal faces? The faces themselves are so powerful, that it is easy to be humbled by looking at them, and by gosh when you remember it was your skill and vision that captured it all so perfectly to share with others, YOU SHOULD FEEL PROUD. That is not vanity.

BEKREUNSEPBERw 06-30-2010 11:35 PM

I want to blow up and hang some of my own photos. Where do people go for casual printing? Kinkos? I think I'd have to enlist some employees there. I dont really know how that works.

Cnbaapuy 07-01-2010 01:16 AM

I usually use a print house if I'm printing for professional work, and especially if it's a print larger than 8x10. However that = $$. For personal stuff 8x10 or smaller, and I just do walmart. We don't have a Kinkos here, though, I suppose if we did I might check them out! There's also various online places you can send your stuff off to for printing. There's one in particular Becka likes, however I forget the name.

Misebeita 07-01-2010 02:01 AM

It might be mpix. I've never had any complaints with their work. Most of the time, I do mine locally at Black's (even up to 24x36, which I did just once) -- they're a Canadian chain. I never liked the results I got from my local WalMart. I am waiting on a 12x18 from them right now, which is what brought this whole subject to mind.

Oh! I'm definitely not pro, either. Do we have any full-time pros in the house? Em, Becka and Barbara are probably closest to being pro, as far as I know.

nicegirlflor 07-01-2010 03:19 AM

I like Snapfish. It's been a long time since I compared prices with other websites, but at the time the were the lowest. They often offer great deals. They blow up to 20" x 30" -though I've only gone as large as 16" x 20" so far. They've recently partnered with Walgreens and Walmart, so you can order your prints online and pick them up at the location of your choice (sizes up to 8 x 10 can be done in an hour that way.) Also, if you check Walgreens or Walmart for sale prices first, you will end up paying the sale price when you get there (meaning I ordered a bunch of 8"x10"'s thinking when I picked them up from Walgreen's I'd be paying Snapfish's $2.99ea only to discover Walgreen's was having a sale which meant each 8" x 10" was only $1.00. I was VERY happy.) And lastly, the one time I got a poster print back with the colors all fucked up, they replaced it.

No, I do not own stock. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

foodselfdourileka 07-01-2010 03:24 AM

I keep all my photos in iPhoto on my Mac and used the Apple store to print out some photos. They were cheap and pretty good. I'm sending them to my mum for her birthday (which was in May).

I have a set of my own photos which I really like and would totally hang them if I could. I'm deffo not a pro.

Menierofe 07-01-2010 06:54 AM

I have one framed and displayed which was intended to be a raffle give-away at my kid's school event but I opted to give a different one and kept this one. Actually I do have another that my dad blew up just for fun and put on a canvas type mount. It helps that he works at a graphics company and has access to that sort of thing.

I don't think it's vain. You take the time to create an image you like so why not hang the ones you really love? I have plans to hang some but making a decision on which ones has been hard for me.
