Default Through the Year Challenge 2011
It's time for a new thread for 2011! Who is going to join me in this challenge? I only photographed a wall in my own backyard this year and found it tedious so I've chosen a much more inspiring place, that I'll look forward to visiting once a month, for 2011.

To make things extra challenging for myself, I'm going to be taking my photo on the first Sunday of every month, around 4pm. There's no need for others to be so strict though, have a read below....

The following is stolen from @....thanks, Em!
Through the year, the world around us changes in subtle and not so subtle ways. The idea of this challenge is to choose an area in your life that you would like to document for the year. It can be a street in your neighborhood or town, a corner of your garden, a bench in the park, a statue in a cemetery, whatever you would like to photograph.

You may photograph this location/object at any time of the day, any day of the month. You will take one photo per month starting January 2011 and ending December 2011. Each photograph should be posted in this topic upon completion.

You should have easy access to the area that you are photographing, and choose wisely because you will be expected to stick with your location/object for 12 months.

The composition of your photos will need to be as similar as possible to help with continuity. In example, if you choose to photograph a statue, not only would it help to include some of the surrounding area in your photo [sense of place & adding interest], but further, you would need to keep the images as similar as possible to the previous and next photos you will take.

I'll do it again! And I'll definitely be picking a new place -- last year I took pics from my balcony, and I'm moving in February. So picking a spot will be a little trickier since I won't have new balcony access in January. It'll likely be someplace in the new apartment complex though, so it's convenient.

I'm hoping to play! I'll probably just choose the one that I forgot I was doing in '09.

I'm in. I'm pretty sure I'll be shooting in my yard. I'm also only a couple of blocks away from the lake, so that's a possibility, but I kind of feel like it's going to be my yard this year. Ha! Although I'm across the street from another Bodega...I guess I'll have to settle soon.

I'm definitely going to do it this year! I picked out a place back in September or so and thought about joining in, but it was more than halfway through the year, so I decided just to wait until January. Of course, now I'm debating on whether to stick with the location I had in mind or pick another spot!

I've been wanting to do this for years but never got around to joining up. I'll try to figure out a good spot.

January

I decided not to go with the easy shot from my balcony -- I just think this one has a little more opportunity for change and interest. And that's the new apartment complex, so it's not like I have far to go to get to this one.

Some things I expect to see change: the trees to the left, the grass (well, snow in this one), the tree line in the distance, the cars, maybe the balconies (hoping for Christmas lights).

i spent a very chilled and happy 90 minutes in there last july - sat on a bench with my partner, eating an orange calippo (yum!), in the shade from 90 degree heat, watching the swans.. ahh..
for slap bang central london it's surprisingly relaxing and nice.
Looking forward to a monthly pic from you!
There's lots of nice and relaxing places in central London

How's everyone else going? Found a location yet? There's still

I've found some locations, but I'm still holding out hope that I'll be able to get onto the balcony of the new apartment before the end of the month. But I've already taken some shots of backup locations, just in case.

I have no real reason for not having this done yet other than perhaps I've made it too easy on myself (and therefore perhaps been slightly lazy about it), and it's been MOFOIN' COLD!!!

I've actually chosen 2 locations. The first is my 100% fail-safe totally committed to choice and it is my backyard. I've only lived here a few months and have never had a yard before. I expect it to change quite a bit this year and recording that will be really fun for me.

The second location is the mouth of the Niagara River, looking at an angle that shows Lake Erie, a bit of Canada and a bit of the U.S. It is one of my favorite spots to stop and stand for a few minutes along my favorite walking route. It is the cold, in this case that has deterred me so far.

I WILL GET PICTURES TAKEN TODAY. I will have them posted Friday or Saturday.

Yesterday I did get into the new apartment and was able to take a pic from the balcony, but I don't think the photos will be as interesting as the view from last year's balcony. I might just end up using one of my backup locations. Or maybe I'll keep doing both until I decide which I like better.

I am disappointed to have to admit that it has been so freaking cold I have procrastinated going to the lake. I guess it's a good thing it wasn't my primary location.

Ok! Here is my picture for January. St James's Park is my chosen place for the year and is also one of my favourite parks in London, so it won't be a chore to go and take my photo.
