I got myself a Rebel XSI. Got a bundle with the kit lens, lowepro bag, battery grip, extra battery for a ridiculously good price.

I'm having a lot of fun with it, didn't realize how much fun they can be.

Picked up the 55-250mm IS lens today as well. I think I will use this lens pretty much all the time for now as I learn more on how to utilize the camera. I plan to pick up the 50mm 1.8f prime as well at some point.

So far playing around with Av, having too much fun heh heh.

Welcome to the expensive & very addictive club, bought yourself an excellent camera to start with also you should put the 50mm F1.8 high on your buy list.[thumbup]

Can't wait till the weather gets warmer so I can take lots of pics. It's too cold to use a camera atm, give me even worse camera shake.

If you find some time, would you mind posting some comparison shots between the kit lens and the 55-250?

I have the same kit as you and I'm debating on buying a better lens.

For sure I will. My house doesn't have great lighting, so I will try to snap some pics outside when it's warmer than -22C (atm).

Oh my. wait until the L sickness starts...

congrats, looks like a sweet kit to get you started! now go shoot some!

btw, just a tip, stop the 50mm down to f/2.8, it's very sharp from there all the way up to f/8.

well at f/1.8 a 50mm lens most of the time will hardly show how sharp it is .. bump it up to around f/4.5 and use bounce or off camera flash and see how sharp prime lenses are (ur jaws gonna drop) [yes]

some ppl do worry about the out of focus blur (ppl prefer to call it something like bokeh or whatever. i don't) of prime lenses and usually tend to like it a lot for portraits but i usually worry more about over-all sharpness of a lens. (corner and centre sharpness). also some out of focus blur will heavily be dependent on aperture blades (how many used and shape of the aperture). bla bla bla bla bla bla...

anyway to make this short. congratz. on the camera and lenses. i am sure you will absolutely love photography.

Yeah I do love my 50mm too, but there's no need to stop down to f/4.5 to get excellent results, f/2.8 will do it, without too much sharpness falloff in the corners... also this is very much of a portraits lens so ultimate sharpness isn't really a basic need here (when shooting portraits). shooting portraits, you can even go wider than f/2.8, as in portraits, overall sharpness isn't always a must, nor is corner sharpness

if you shoot landscapes with this lens then do stop it to f/5.6-8, preferably f/8 to get more dof when needed but not any narrower than this because diffraction will start affecting the IQ. but if you want very good IQ and nice bokeh then f/2.8 is your friend with this lens.

if you want it's best corner to corner sharpness then you'll need to stop down to f/5.6-6.3

that canon 50mm is better then my minolta 50mm thats for sure .. minolta has pretty poor overall sharpness at max aperture ok for portraits but then i don't do portraits. (at least in classical means i need the sharpness for editing later)

Yeah, f2.8 is pretty sweet. Love the lens.
