Your rig is more than OK. I use CS3 on my old Athlon XP 3200+.

As for how I've learned CS3(There's a lot more to learn), it's just experience. some specific easy tutorials here and there.... but mainly it's just experience, discover a new tool or a filter every other time.
I've never used a general all-around tutorial of CS3, just simple 'How To's. If you want to figure something out, then just google an action you'd like to know how to do, and you should find numerous tutorials.
That's how I learned it, and still learning.

There are books that teach photoshop, if you're interested.

Good luck!

Taught myself PS years ago by experimenting, had also taken some courses to fill in the gaps.Even when you think you know everything about PS you will always learn something new though.

I would definitely buy/borrow some books. I have tons of books and all of them have great
tutorials etc. I always liked the WOW PS books and the Adobe Classroom in a Book series. They will get you started, they are good books for beginners or advanced. Go into most book stores and they will have Photoshop sections with these books.

There are also tons of websites with tutorials etc. if you search for them.
Experiment and have fun!! [thumbup]

People always say to me stuff like 'Teach me how to do that!' and 'I want to do cool stuff like that!'. However, my reply is nearly always the same.

If you'd like to do something cool, you've got to have that idea in mind and keep working at it. Look at other artists work, take a couple of tutorials too. While the tutorials may not do exactly what you want visually, you'll learn load about the program

Look for simple tutorials online and work from there. Over the years you just build up a knack for all the tools and how they work together to achieve something. I've never had formal education on it (I use CS1) but that'll probably have to change according to my major.

Actually when I first saw these video tutorials I thought it was really a good idea, which it is, but there's one problem that turned me off- the YouTubish quality of the videos.

imo the best guides are the ones that have clear screen shots, in which you can see exactly what values are set at, and not only what's done in general.

I learned a looong time ago just by winging it and messing with filters. I would recommend that, pick out a photo and go to filters and start messing around. Dont be scared just to just try everything. Now in days there some cool tutorial sites that literally hold your hand the whole way to some neat effects for your photos. I recommend pslover.com and then click on "photo effects" have fun!

Got tired of using MSPaint for making sigs back in 1998, installed mom's PS5 and started clicking on stuff till I figured things out. Luckily mom was working in PS5 back then as her main job, so I could nag her from time to time if I got stuck and didn't know how to do something http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/smile1.gif

After that, Good Tutorials appeared http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/cool1.gif
