Default which one of these canon lense should I get
I prefer taking wide-angle shots and have no interest with telephoto, so decided to narrow it down to 2 lenses
Canon EF-S 17-85mm F4-5.6 IS USM

Canon EF 17-40mm F4.0 L USM
http://www.thecamerastore.com/Produc...roductID=22175
atm I only have 2 lenses, the 18-55 kit and 50mm F1.8 is there any advantage a constant aperture? and is L lenses really good?

Id say it depends what you are shooting. And what camera you have.

You should take a look at this review of the Canon EF 17-40mm F4.0 L USM If you need it, go for it!

Well if your only intrested in wideangle then i suggest either the Sigma 10-20mm Sigma 12-24mm or the Canon 10-22mm.

Now the 17-40mm & the 17-85mm are not going to give you all that much more over your kit lens, unless you decided to go full frame were the 17-40mm becomes a wide angle lens but i doudt you be doing that anytime soon.

Basically for around the price of the 17-85mm you can get the sigma 10-20mm and that the one you should be going for.

But the 17-40mm is a nice lens i have it there a post on it somewere on this board also this pic was taken at 17mm with the 17-40mm

I used to have the 17-40 which was an AWESOME lens, but I switched to pentax. But if you like wide (like me) go wide as possible, go for something in the 10-12mm range, it really makes all the difference in a good wide shot.
