Best program for my needs?

As you have probably already seen by my other thread, I am currently going through loads of old slides which I am scanning (at 1200dpi) = 18-30mb jpegs per pic scanned.

Okay, some of them (most of them) are a little faded and battered after 40 odd years sitting in a box, and I need a program thats dead easy to use, to automatically sort out the colours, contrast etc.

(yes, I know the pros are gonna come in here and flame me for mentioning "auto tools") but I really have no experience of any tools, except dabbling a little bit in paint shop pro 7.

Any recommendations from you guys? The program must be easy and quick to use, thanks[thumbup]

Picassa is an image library as well as a lite image editor (i think?). If you want more control, try paint.net, it's sort of like a photoshop clone.

Image viewer XnView also has a pretty comprehensive color correction tool, give that a try, too.
