Default So.. death metal? what the heck
Where did this form of music originate anyway? And what the heck is the deal with it.

Half of it starts out pretty cool from an instrumental stanpoint... then all the sudden you have some guy start screaming and the music suddenly changes to what reminds me of a bunch of 10 year olds attempting to play guitar.

RAH RAH RAH!!! RARARARHALAJSDLAKJDLAKJSDLAKSJDLAKJ RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHH *punches guitar* RRRRRRRRRRRRRAHHHHHHHHHHHHASDKJ GLGLGLGLGL RRRAAAH

Death metal is about facing the reality that nothing is ideal, we are imperfect, and that life is full of suffering - it embraces life and does not disillusion itself with ideas of love, happiness, and peace. It's a pretty blue-collar, urban genre of music similar to how early hip hop was done.

Musically it is derived from a combination of late punk (therefore early hardcore ala Biohazard) and progressive rock. Its early musical origins coincide with that of Bay Area thrash bands in terms of musical influence. Bands like Possessed, Celtic Frost, and especially Bathory exemplify the connection. When bands in the mid-late 80s started going further and further, gutteral vocals began to emerge as rougher guitar tones and faster rhythms weren't extreme enough aurally for the time period.

Much of popular death metal (Cannibal Corpse, for example) is pretty boring and primitive, just like any other popular genre of music. Similar to your view many people involved in the extreme metal community view a lot of hip hop and R&B as musically simplistic and primitive. Compared to postmodern classical, pop music is a one-night symphony.

Wait till you get into black metal. That's another story altogether.

It's ****, that's the deal.

I guess people think it's makes them cool, mean and moody - all that black clothing and being miserable. They probably think they're very original and alternative whilst somehow managing to be EXACTLY the same and all the other weirdos. It's not music, it's just a noise - and a bad one at that. That goes for all the so called 'genres' of metal.

In my opinion.

Couldn't agree more

Although metal totally isn't my style, I can understand why people like it. Also any kind of music with "hard" in front of it is crap imo

What's up with this genre flaming? Others don't come and say that your music taste sucks. No other forums have these kind of topics, because it's retarded.

May I ask what you like to listen to? When you tell me, I'll come back and return some ignorant comments about your particular tastes.

Reminds me of the South Park episode, Raisins ... conformist

Why should we listen to utter crap talking about... sorry, shouting about death, famine and suffering, when we get that on the news already!!!

To quote South Park:

I'd rather be a crying little pussy than a faggy goth kid.

To be a non-conformist, you have to dress in black, and listen to the same music we do.

Kyle: Go live in a third-world country for once!
Goth Kid: I won't live in a third-world country with all the comformists.

[rofl]

Basically it's for people who are anti-social and have it stuck in their heads that the world is against them, which could also mean they think the world revolves around them and that people should pay more attention as they think their worth it.

Well f*** that, go dress in black and stay in the shadows where we cant see u.

Bands like Death and Cynic had exceptional instrumentists and a very complex and refined music which is maybe a bit difficult for those who prefer more simpler beats.

The quality of the music produced by some of the best bands in this genre surpassed by far the garbage we often see in the mass sold charts music.

Are you 50 years old? [rofl] Congrats for being the most ill-informed person on the planet. Seriously, you've outdone even yourself on this one.

Nope, I'm probably younger than you.

It's just annoying to see them all gathering around certain places with their red hair, black clothes and piercings in every orifice. Mumbling about how bad their lives are, how "plain" other people are, how we all live our humble lives in offices and doing work etc

Get a grip, and stop messing around smoking drugs.

You don't seem to be very informed and are confusing the usual rebel attitude of the teenagers with a music genre that, as i said in a previous post has extremely professional artists and a complex and refined music, which has nothing to do with clothes or piercings.

I'm someone who listens to R&B, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Soul, Classical, Rock, Punk, Alternative, and Metal. It's subjective. I usually like to listen to music that sounds good, or evokes a certain mood at a certain point. I enjoy listening to Rihanna and Jay-Z as much as I do Dragonforce or Amon Amarth. From Jimi Hendrix to Jessica Simpson, as long as it sounds good, I'll listen.

Nobody is going to like all music. It's open to interpretation. There are a lot of straight death metal bands that focus more on the intrumental than vocals, just like a lot of modern club rap artists. People like music they can connect to.

Honestly, who cares what anyone else listens to, just don't listen to it.

Extremely professional artists, yep, people who like the music say that and then usually follow it up with:

"But people like DJ Tiesto just play blip blip blop blop music and they have no talent or skill"

My mate is into metal and all that revolves around it, and sorry but its just noise. Nothing more.

Who the hell are you talking about? Sounds like the emo stereotype to me, which is nothing to do with death metal at all. I doubt that even 1% of the population has actually heard non convoluted death metal. I don't take drugs, am doing a masters in architecture and dress "conventionally", you can't pigeonhole me.

People that listen to extreme forms of music are often the most articulate, open minded and interesting people around. I'm sure you don't spend all day watching Disney films..

Thanks for the laugh though.

You must be a hip hop fan and your anxiolytic/neuroleptic meds make you think you're a music expert. It's an illusion. You know **** about music.

Most articulate, based on what? yourself? [rofl]

My workmate on the desk opposite has a Bachelors degree and is working towards a Masters, yet he listens to "Happy Hardcore" (Rave music).

I listen to a mixture of music, R&B to Trance and everything inbetween.

Those "articulate death metal'ers" always think they're the most articulate cos their always watching the news etc and justifying that their music is better as it's based on real world events etc
