Default First attempt at HDR Photography
On my way home from dinner, I thought I'd stop and give my new Pentax *istDL a try. I had my tripod so I thought I'd try some HDR. There were 5 shots taken to make this image. This is taken on the side of the road I live on in Mt. Shasta California. The volcano is called (you guessed it) Mt. Shasta and is 14,162 feet (4317 meters) tall. Sorry about the power lines.

Thanks!

Yeah, we have mosquitoes, but not bad. We only get them for a month or two a year though as it gets too cold for them. It is awesome here though, there's thousands of mountains, hundreds of high altitude lakes (melted glaciers from the last ice age), rivers galore, forests, deserts, lava tubes (caves), huge cliffs, waterfalls, you name it all around this marvelous centerpiece. It is actually the second highest volcano in the cascades range and by far the largest in volume, and it is one the largest by volume stratovolcanoes in the world. The surrounding valley is at 3000 ft, so the peak rises over 11,000 feet from base to summit, it's surely something to behold. The only other peak that it is comparable to that I've seen is Mt. Rainier in Washingon, which is also amazing.

There's also tons of snow here every winter. The proximity to the pacifc ocean means that we get lots of precipitation in the winter. In fact the mountain holds the world record single snowfall 15 feet over one single storm that lasted 3 days. Needless to say there's lots of winter activities here.

The only bad thing is that it is an active volcano and last erupted a little over 200 years ago.The odds of erupting in anyone's life is 1:3 and more like 1:2 now since it seems to have erupted once every 300 years or so in the past few thousand years. In fact, the closest major volcano Lassen peak (about 60 miles) erupted in the early 1900's. Mt St. Helens is part of the same chain of volcanoes as well. A stratovolcano of this size is bound to be very explosive and destructive, and my property is perched on the base of the beast. Oh well, it's too beautiful up here.

I'd really like to visit a place like that and bring my camera.
You have some mighty fine pictures in you gallery, I especially like the Mount Shasta ones, great colors in most of them.

Oops, sorry, I didn't intend for you to think that was my gallery, it's just a local photographer's store/gallery. I'll pass the compliment to Kevin.

I did a quick and sloppy version with all the power lines cloned out.

Not too bad for a quick and sloppy job. [thumbup]

The pictures are still great, even if they are not yours. Hehe...
