Default Poor video quality using USB capture
I'm using a JVC GR-D93 miniDV camcorder. When I view video using the AV cable and a television the quality is good, but when I use the included software to transfer it to the PC via USB it becomes pixilated and degraded.

Any ideas how I can get round this?

Use a firewire cable. When you use a USB cable, the video gets highly compressed so it can be sent in realtime to your PC.

That would be best, but the camcorder doesn't support firewire...

Try using something like VirtualDubMod to transfer it. Or try and make Windows see it as a drive and copy it uncompressed.

But according to this it does:

Ports (8.0)
The GR-D93 jacks include: a Mini AV in / out, a S-Video In/Out, USB and a Firewire

Don't worry about it, just about everyone here has asked something like that at some point. [thumbup]

yup choose firewire over USB.

however USB 2 is 480Mbit and Firewire is 400Mbit. So it should be well fast enough to handle 25Mbit DV camcorder video.

Perhaps your PC is USB 1?

All I know though is firewire is a more effecient protocol and has always been used for transfer of video from camcorders. So perhaps there is something around the whole design of firewire that makes it muchg better for video.
