The details might be different from one culture to another, but the pattern is similar. People always find "something" to gossip about and to brag about, those people who care about such things, will gossip or listen to the gossip.

Most cultures have some kind of social status thing going on and in each culture some people REALLY buy into it and others don't care.

You demonstrate yourself Lime that Thailand women have a range of attitudes, yours being different to those who brag about the money their farrang man has.

I don't know how to start this thread and I might get a few ' none of your business' responses but I will ask any way.

I have noticed that a lot of Thai ladies who are married to western men (now I'm too scared to use ' Farangs ' since some are not happy about it) or have western boyfriends brag about their fortunes to other Thais. Are you boys aware of this???

To be honest, I don't know why they do it. I also don't know what benefits you get from this behaviour.

Anyway I always believe if both partners love each other and are willing to work hard and according to right values, even if they do not have the biggest house to start off with, with their loving cooperation with each other, sooner or later they can earn it.

I'm very aware in general Thai woman brag about there farang boyfriends wealth, but not in my case, When I met my former Thai girlfriend, I deliberately down played my wealth to being one of the working poor with no assets, I continued this image of poverty through out our relationship by not spending any money on her, I don't believed she bragged to Thai's about me, but I do believe she complained to other Thia's about me, as she told me That she told her father about me, she told her father I not financially supporting her and he say that's very bad. I told her she has got a university degree and a well paying job and she should not be exspecting her already better than average Thai income to be subsidised.

Most people who brag are hungry for recognition. Sometimes this is due to certain "impoverishment" in them--material or otherwise.

Those who "do not have" enough of what would take to make them gain that desired level of esteem might magnify something they have or invent stories to make up for the shortfall.

Those Thai ladies you talked about must be ones whose shortest circuit to wealth is by marrying or hooking up with an affluent foreigner guy. They flaunt this wealth to be perceived as now in equal, or better, footing than of significant comparative others. From their perspective, now they are worthy of recognition.

I am certainly aware of what you mentioned above and I must say that I overlooked the Thai couples and ignore their behaviours. Perhaps I was paranoid when some one (villagers) talked to me in the face that ' I got married to a poor white man ' unlike, such and such girls. " Their husbands built big houses that cost at least 3 millions Baht for them but your husband didn't do anything like that " ; " Their husbands give 30,000 baht to the wives to spend per month but your husband didn't give you any money " etc.... I meant good luck to them (if they are happy together). Though, I am not being jealous or anything like that, just don't get it some time and wondering if their farang husbands know about what goes around the village or maybe they know but have ' who cares ' attitude.http://www.thailandqa.com/forum/imag...lies/smile.png

Either there hungry for recognition or they feel success is the best revenge for people who put them down when they were poor.

To show off wealth and status. Just like the nuevo rich in western world, in fact I would probably argue that to some extent these girls are nuevo rich by definition.
