Well, thanks David for that bit of info. I am youngest (though by no means young ) of 4 children, my parents were from the old times believing in having larger families, and they came from even larger families. My sisters have 3 children each, brother nothing, and I and Nooch nothing ..yet,...but we will keep trying and we want to have 1 child...But according to these webs I read, most younger Thai couples nowadays prefer one or 2 children,...not 4 or 6...
Here in Wales I am oldest of 3 children. Ubonwan has had 2 children but had to give one away because she couldn't afford to look after him. Sometimes she tells me she would like to have one more child with me and other times she says she would like to have children with me until we have a daughter - we will have to see about that.

David

Well thanks Paul, but royalty of every country were like that,....but I meant average monogamous Thai family, ..In country of my birth...loooong ago, every 11th. or 13th. child had president as godfather, and was entitled to some extra privileges, such as free school books,...etc...not that it helped much to parents if they were not able to care for so many children...But I guess today there is no things like that.

That`s true of older generations in other countries as well,..like my mother had 7 other sibling, my father somewhat less,...2 others I think..so they found a happy middle ground and had 4, but that was over 51 or 52 years ago, as on 4th. I`ll be full 52. Today not as many parents would have 4 children, but today cost of raising large brood is higher also....So according to the descending number of your predecessors,..how many times you expect to be a grand mother Susan?

The older generation of my Thai family would have as many children as happened along. Then those who married in the 60's and later started planning their children and had 1 or 2. It's interesting that those who were 'only children' chose also to have just one child.

My great -grandparents had 14 children. My grandparents had 7, my parents had 3 and I have 2.

Default Thai Families..
I looked on internet without success trying to find largest-most numerous Thai family, but I found out that way back Thai familes , as in many other countries, would have 4-6 children, but in modern times Thai couples preffer to have 1-2 children, which is about norm in most "civilized" nations. Though some governments are discouraging their citizens from having too many children, and limiting number of them to one, because of over-population.So what is median size of Thai family today?...and how does Thai government & society look at this-the size of family?...any encouragement one way or another?..

most of my upper-middle class students have 1 or 2 siblings. I would say the average is closer to 3 children than to 2 children. there are hardly any who don't have brothers or sisters. and there are hardly any broken families.

Happy Birthday, hunsolo! This one day you get all the cake and ice cream you want. Enjoy!

Me, a granny? Well, anything's possible. I'll just let it be a pleasant surprise when and if it happens!

the official fertility rate seems to be 1.7-1.8 children per woman, and 25% of the population is aged under 15.
the corresponding figures for Hungary are 1.3 and 15%.
