That's enough rice, to feed a family of 4, for a year, with out eating any other type of food, but the occasional fruit.
A ton of rice seems to be a bit much for four people to eat! Six cups of cooked rice a day for 365 days would be about 123 kg of dry rice per year. (This page says average consumption is 136 kg/year.) To eat up a 1000-kg metric ton of rice, or a 907 kg "short" ton, you probably would need to expand the family considerably.

BANGKOK, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Thailand still retains its status as the world's largest exporter of rice in terms of volume and value, with Vietnam coming second, Thai Department of Foreign Trade said on Monday.

Rachane Pojanasuntorn, the department's director-general, was quoted by the Thai News Agency as saying the country's rice exports in the first quarter of this year reaching 1.79 million tons, worth 22.64 billion baht (567.4 million U.S. dollars

The price of exported Thai rice is around 317 U.S. dollars per ton on average.

He was confident that the export volume and value would continue to increase.

Its volume for this year is expected to reach a target of 7.5 million tons, up 2.7 percent from that of last year.

Vietnam set a target to export 5 million tons of rice this year, down from 5.28 million tons last year.

In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam exported 1.1 million tones of rice.

Because of this, Thailand and Vietnam still retained the world's first and second rankings as major rice exporters.
