Default WAFL recruitments in 2012
A few recent delistings and retirements in the AFL always throw up potential possibilities for WAFL clubs.

With Michael Gardiner finished at St.Kilda, he would have something to offer in the WAFL and Claremont would be his obvious connection. Given they have just won a flag and have already had some retirements, expect them to be working on him now.

Mark Williams is an ex-South Fremantle player I think and he has just ended an unsuccessful stint at Essendon. He had a great career at Hawthorn and would be a very versatile forward in the WAFL for a few years yet if committed. That would be the key word for Williams - commitment. He would need to show it otherwise he could be detrimental to a WAFL club. A player such as him should kick 60 goals here in the WAFL.

Since McGough's influence at East Fremantle, recent delistings at St.Kilda spring to mind with Robert Eddy and Andrew McQualter. Both players ae 23 and 25 years old respectively and would have heaps to offer any of the 9 WAFL clubs. These players will be sought after not only here but in South Australia.

Darcy Daniher was delisted by Essendon and is the son of Anthony. There is a family connection here in WA with Neil Daniher established firmly at West Coast. Darcy is 191cms and a good solid 93 kgs. Could also be a target here in WA considering the WAFL is now seen as a real source for players to rejovenate their AFL careers. A player like him would be a prime candidate to re-enter the AFL scene with some time here in the west.

Tyson Slattery was also delisted by the Bombers and at 20 years of age should be looked at. He is a West Adelaide boy originally so that would be a more difficult reality.

Hamish Shepherd and Jarrad Oakely-Nicholls have also been delisted by both WA AFL clubs, so their futures at East Perth would be unknown at this stage. I cant see either being targeted elsewhere in the AFL so they may stay with the Royals.

There was talk about Leon Davis returning, but his manager doubts this so I expect him to stay at Collingwood. He has had an outstanding year but failed again on the big stage. That is a concern for him. But there was talk Chance Bateman will retire at Hawthorn. He is an original Perth player and the demons will want to get something attractive prepared for him because if he does come back to WA, there will be several WAFL clubs charging at an on-baller like him. Jarrod Kayler-Thompson was an ex-teamate of Batemans so he may have an influence if it comes to that.

Interesting times ahead and all clubs will / or should be busy. This is the time where clubs need to work the hardest. October to December is not the time to relax.

I reckon Chance would have retired by now if he was going to.

Looks like East Freo have already picked up a tall likely type from Frankston in the VFL.

And this should be cause for concern to the WAFL. SD have snared Shaun Hilderbrandt from Subiaco, some might say Subi are fair game having been the most successful club in the past 10 years by a mile and they poached him from Peel in the first place, but the one of concern should be Swans going after exciting Perth on baller Aaron Elari.

How are Perth going to improve if we lose young players of this calibre to an opponent that is cashed up like Swans? Looks like Swans have given up on developing their own.

Yep, very obvious re Swans developing their own...very evident from where their colts & ressies have finished the last few years...

Looks like West Perth are in contact with Michael Pettigrew from Port Adelaide. Could be a possibility he could return to the WAFL with the Falcons. At 26 years of age he would be a great pickup as a versatile player.

And it has been mentioned Daniel Motlop could end up playing WAFL in 2012. He has been delisted by Port Adelaide and has close family connections here in WA. He would be one player who could really get people in the gates. Though he comes with baggage that contains all sorts, so he could be hard work for whoever takes him on. I reckon Swans will be in the mix here given their connections with the indigineous programs set up between them & BHP-Billiton. Could be something brewing there.

Would they have room in there points and salary cap??I dont reckon they would.
I am hoping Perth make a play for him..reckon he would be a handfull for most backlines and in the process solve some of our goal kicking woes!

Motlop wouldn't come cheap and at 30 yrs old would it be money well spent?......Pettigrew sounds like he would do well in the WAFL.....I don't think McGough has too many connections at St Kilda any more Gassy....it's been a while.....though Eddy is a good mobile tall from memory. Lots of interesting comings and goings to hit the paper post drafting.....Be interested if EF make a play for say Brad Dick and Jac Perham if they get delisted from Collingwood......Perham struggled from all acounts to make an impression in Collingwoods VFL side, whilst Dick's body is knackered post knee and shoulder injuires...pity that because the kid looked talented with a bit of speed.
