Default Massa Out in 2011?
Todays Autosport has reported that there are suggestions Felipe will lose his drive in 2011. This is pure speculation of course, and personally I can't see how the man leading the championship is seriously being considered to be leaving at this early stage. Kubica is the rumoured replacement, but other than Autosport I have not seen this story anywhere..

hmm, I feel an autosport purchase coming on...

because im intrigued to know why on earth the championship leader would be considered to be axed from a team, I know Kubica is skilled but IMO massa is just as good.

I will dismiss this as speculation and nonsense unless there is a really good reason......

I would think so to be honest. Why on earth would Alonso allow Felipe to be replaced with Robert when Felipe is largely considered the inferior pilot of the two? Alonso is good friends with Kubica, but I would think Kubica would give Alonso the most problems.

It was rumored Kimi would be replaced when he was WDC... Why is this surprising at all?

We also gotta remember the relationships of Ferrari MS, FM, Nick Todt... Maybe Montezemolo holds a grudge now a days with FM?

Probably just a leak to light a little fire under Massa's arse. And he needs it too, I think. Alonso has outclassed him so far in the season, no matter what the points say.

TBH I wouldn't be that surprised if there's some truth here. This is the team that has shoved MS and Kimi out the door in favour of the flavour of the month.

Hmm. I think that maybe in current situation it could be better for Kubica to stay at Renault. Less intra-team competition, less cock-ups by the team () and of course it would sound as a greater achievement to fight for the title in a Renault rather than Ferrari.

Ferrari has hinted that they are going to extend Massa's contract for 2011 and that they want him onboard afterward. To quote Stefan Domenicali ""We want to build with Felipe into the future," said the Italian.

"Domenicali added: "We have the feeling that he has developed in recent years into a driver as good as any other in the field."

Qualifying: Alonso vs. Massa 2-1
Points: Massa 39 -37

I know Alonso looked a little better in the races but does everybody in this forum hold some kind of double standard when it comes to Alonso? Now, if this had happened last year, I don't think too many people would go on about how Kimi was better in the races and Massa was outclassed even if the real situation was, in many cases, exactly the same as this year.

I too believe Massa to be pretty handy but who knows? Perhaps an understanding was reached with Kubica before the season even started? Although replacing Massa wouldn't make sense at this point as has already been pointed out MS and Kimi were also not exactly that bad when they had the rug pulled out under them.

I never understood why any team would want to build a car around Kubica's height.
It must be a technical nightmare and any kind of advantage, if there is any, due to driver skills is lost on having to make compromises to accommodate his additional height.

I think this is much adieu about nothing. Autosport is just trying to stir the pot to sell more magazines. It looks like silly season is beginning a little early this year.

Go-on! A double standard judging drivers on THIS forum?? NEVER!!! Ridiculous!

Massa is a driver that beat the great Michael Schumacher at times and on others was quicker. He vanquished Raikonnen and while he made errors, if it were not for the team errors he would have been champion in 2008, not Hamilton. And he won more grands prix in 2008 than Lewis.

Exactly what does Felipe have to do to be recognized?

It is ALONSO that ought to be mentioned as performing less than expected - if this is to be applied at all.

Excluding the ridiculous performances by Ferrari and Mclaren at Sepang, Massa and Alonso are equal 1 - 1 in qualifying and while the Brazilian has yet to win this season, it is HE who leads the championship after three rounds and not Alonso.

What is wrong with THAT picture. I am sure Kimi must be chuckling to himself as he drives along in his Red Bull sponsored fast taxi cab prior to his returning to real racing in 2011 with RBR.

Felipe Massa is quick and has shown himself, as has Lewis, not to be afraid of any other driver on the grid.

It is Alonso that had better get his arse into gear or before he realizes it, he will be looking decidedly a lot like Kimi did at Ferrari.

I did expect far more from Alonso.

Ferrari would hire who? There is nobody at this stage.

considering how Massa is the championship leader at this point in time after nearly getting killed last year, I'd say hes doing great and dont understand why he would be considered in being replaced.

unless Ferrari gets Vettel, I dont see many better drivers than Massa out there in F1

Well, since the points say who is WDC and who's second, third, etc. I guess it doesn't make a lot of difference who is percieved to have "outclassed" whom.
You (and others) sort of missed my point. I rate Massa's ability highly. But he has underperformed so far this year, I think. So my theory is: Ferrari think so too. They know he can do much better. So they give him a little encouragement -- leak some info about him possibly being dropped. It's nothing serious. It's basically an enhanced version of saying "Come on now! Pull your finger out!"

Just a theory.
