No dud teams - a first?

I know we've only had one race this season, but I couldn't help noticing that ALL the teams in F1 look good this year. In all the time I've been watching F1 I think it's the first time that you can say that all teams have improved noticeably for the season opener. Last year there were a few candidates for the "worst team" award. Even Super Aguri have done a great job, with the limited resources they have.

In fact, if you contrast expectation against performance it's been Ferrari that have disappointed most, but no-one has any doubt they'll bounce back (although it's a worry for them that three of the four cars under Ferrari power suffered mechanical failure).

I thought there were 6 Ferrari powered cars out there, unless force India changed their engine supplier.

I was fearing for the worst for Super Aguri.

Nice to see Sato doing his usual job of another blinding start and holding up a bunch of cars.

I totally understand why Super Aguri is off pace, with all their winter non-testing, but nevertheless they are the disappointment of the season opener for me, partially because I really like them and both of their pilots.

I'm reserving judgement on Toyota and Renault, but other than these 3 I think it's safe to say that everyone has improved.

A messy race usually gives an opportunity to shine for several teams/drivers, who in 'normal conditions' won't do so. Who achieved a strong result (McLaren, BMW, Williams, Renault), who was quick, but failed to get those points that the car's potential should have allowed them to get (Toyota, Honda, STR). I guess in the next races - which won't create such mess - we won't be able to say that 'everyone looked good' as lesser teams get less chances to make an impression.

Besides Ferrari also Red Bull seemed somehow 'lost' after Friday's practices. Partly because Albert Park circuit's specialist Webber suffered from unluck already in the qualifying and we didn't get a clear picture, how good RB might be, but maybe we'll get an answer this week.

I understand as well but despite no testing, throughout practice and qualifying they were only just over 3 seconds off the pace, and Sato even managed to outqualify one of the Renault's, thats a fantastic achievement despite what they've gone through

Hopefully they'll get themselves a decent sponsor and maybe sneak a point or 2
