A college buddy of mine (trust fund baby) was in Haiti with habitat for humanity or some other do gooder organization. I confess to being very ignorant of anything West of Santo Domingo or Cofresi. This guy was telling me that it was very easy to do business in Haiti. He said there were very low tariffs on manufacturing equip etc. I had looked into shipping some earth moving equip after the quake but then I sold it to someone else who did the same thing.
My question is for anyone who has done or is doing business in Haiti. What size business are you? Are you strictly working with NGOs? Is the import/export game as byzantine as the DR? Is there any truth to the lite tariffs for capital goods? Please specify if YOU have done business and your experience not your cousins brother in law etc. Thanks in Advance |

I think Pauleast might be a bit harsh, but I can understand where he's coming from.
Ask anyone who can meet up with you to discuss this, to send you a PM and you can set up a meet in Sto Domingo or some place convenient. This is major money that is being discussed and it should probably be kept very discrete. I can give you the name of a civil engineer in Haiti, a Haitian, Georgia Tech grad, who can maybe help you. PM me for that info. HB |
