Call Victor Hugo 809-416-7660. He even speaks some English.
Use my name, I just bought a Suzuki XL7 from him.

He's very helpful and hard working.

My advice is to search for a car that was built for export .... ie, that has not been reg'd in No America.
The Suzukis are more popular off continent than they are in No America.

Search SuperCarros - República Dominicana - compra de carros, venta de vehiculos to get a feel for pricing.

Here, I did 2000 to 2002 for you...Listado de Suzuki en venta en la República Dominicana - SuperCarros.com

Chevrolet Tracker - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here's a bit of background on the manufacturing of the Chevy and Suzuki - in Ingersoll ON (near London ON)

When I was researching my XL7 for purchase, I was warned to avoid the Japanese made cars and seek the Cdn made one.

Up until 2009 or so, all these were produced in the Ingersoll CAMI plant.
The GM and Suzuki models were made in the same fashion - those quality complaints stem from the Japanese version, in all likelihood.

Ama, I don't know in what part of he country you are , but the Suzuki Vitarais probably the most popular car in the Puerto Plata area it is also called the Chevrolet Tracker. same car different name Very good car good price too. I paid a bit more than that for mine which is a 1999. with 220,000 miles on it when I bought it, I love it.

That is the Santana not the vitara, had both, actually preferred the santana, coulsmt roll it, the vitara bodywork held but once a bit of rust got in it was game over. Although the vitara is faster and looks better hard and soft top.

I think $200,000 is too much for 1998 model, saw a 1999 the other day at a dealer in Santo Domingo for $150,000.

Again, for a 1998 model a little to expensive, try to negotiate to 170 to 180 k. Saw a 2000 model for 200,000 last week.

The Suzuki vehicles are the least selling vehicles in America. In my opinion, that's one of the reasons you see so many here. Folks sell them cheapin the states, to get rid of them. Lots of them for sale cheap translates to lots on the road here.

According to Consumer Reports, they also have significant quality issues.

I have one of the Suzuki vans. It started rusting out under the hood and around the windshield a couple of months after it was bought. It also strikes me as very "tinny"
