I posted this question on the main thread but maybe it didnt conform with the rules for that area. My question is legitimate and perhaps it is one that might make some people uncomfortable because it really is an unexplored thought ...
Can someone be a fool-for-christ over the Internet? The reason I ask this is that traditionally a Fool-for-Christ acts like a conscious for the Christians and dares to go where no other Christian will go to SAVE souls (eg. Many stories tell us of FFC who would go to Prostitutes businesses and pretend to want business only to help them out of this). I am very close to St Andrew the Fool for Christ and read his story almost every second night ... I have learnt that in his FFC character he would do things that would get mixed reactions by Christians - some would see a God inspired man and would not be sure and pity him and others did not like him and would say he was possesed by teh devil. So, I think can a fool-for-christ generate the same emotions amongst Christians via the Internet? The thing that is inspiring with Andrew was he would knowingly MOCK and tease the Christians and they could not read into what he was saying ... but he would afterwards pray with tears in his eyes for their souls ... ALSO they (FFC) tend to be prevalent in times when Christianity appears to be thriving not the opposite - its almost like they act as a conscious to the conscious of a thriving Christian community ... to shake it up so to speak so that they are cursed so that they receive greater blessing by God for being cursed? I have many many thoughts and reasonings I want to share on this but figure I might leave it for some feedback first but it strikes me that we are in a period where I believe Christianity is THRIVING - so WHO is acting as our conscious to shake us up? Who is our FFC these days and how would they communicate (mock and stir us) with us when we no longer live in small geographical boundaries but rather are connected via a technological tool that links us? Wouldnt this allow room for a modern day FFC who can do all t his via technology or is this wrong thinking? Today, WE do not function like the Christians of the past and we DO use the Internet as a primary means of communicating with Christians all over the world and when I read the original thread I wondered if it is possible for someone to challenge US Christians over the Internet! Much like the old FFC dared go to prostitutes ....?? Legitimate questions- what are other peoples thoughts? |
