Default Schrippe vs. Croissant
Ludicrous poll. The schrippe simply is no match for the croissant.

Croissant, by a mile. I love Brotchen, but they're just not as awesome, sweet or fattening as a croissant. Now, croissant or brioche would be a tough decision. Or American pancakes.

That's too avant-garde for my liking.

Why don't you just inject filth straight into your veins in the morning instead of eating a croissant. Not that white flour bread is that great for you but at least it rises above the croissant, I got served a chocolate covered croissant as breakfast while in France once. Really more of a dessert than staple of your diet isn't it?

"Schrippe"? In Bayern, when I was there they called that "Semmel".

Anyway, it depends highly on the quality of the croissant.
Croissants can be great, but not so many people know how to make them right. And a bad croissant is terrible.
You can easily get very crappy croissants in cheap hotels, restaurants or supermarkets.

Schrippe seems to depend far less on quality. I mean even low quality Schrippe can still be called 'food'.

So, if both are cheap, bad quality or if I want to play safe, I'd go for the Schrippe.
If I know it's quality, if I know the baker or if they look fine enough for a try, I'd go for the croissant.

None of the above. I prefer Semmeln.

Bread rolls

But I do like the pizzas made using croissant dough that the bakery around the corner makes.

Sorry BeBro, but if the French know anything, they know bread. Germany is home to several amazing foodstuffs, but not bread.

Sir Ralph's right, at least when it comes to variety and acclaim. However personally, I find most German bread not to my taste, yet I love baguettes and almost any Italian bread (foccacia, ciabatta, etc.).

Never thought about it.

Maybe because the standard Brötchen is too popular as it is.
