Let us ponder shall we? If you were in a gun battle and it came to a stand off. Then you noticed that your weapon totting enemy's child was in arm reach, would you take the child as a human shield and as a bargaining chip to make him/her lower his/hers weapon. NOTE: neither of you have had any military or police training.
