Comp Virus
Hi all. I'm here to get some advice on how to deal with a virus my comp has. It's infected my MSN acc and is sending msg's to everyone on my contact list to spread itself. I think it's infected the registry, cos whenever I delete it with the virus scanner, new traces of it are found the next day. So now, I'm trying to figure out what to do.
Should I:
To those who have me on their MSN, sorry for the inconvenience. >. |
The best way around this problem is to change your password. It usually works for any problem like this. Also, don't click on fishy links, because this will happen again.

what's the name of the virus anyway???
|
how do u know whether ur msn is doing this?

Probably a Hoax or PSW...
you should change ur PW or create a new acct.. HMMM.... this virus is pretty new. do you know what is the main source of the virus? Don't PM me I don't want to get infected. oh BTW if the virus or worm has the message: delete the file jdbgmgr.exe (or something lyk that) don't do something lyk that. To be easy just have ur PC reformatted. |
There are lots of worms that crawl around MSN, and the people who click the links of infected users, their computer becomes a spam-spreading zombie as well; its essentially a botnet. A host of infected machines that send spam (much like how the Conficker scare was made to work). This is a much simpler, less dangerous botnet; other botnets can do anything from sending spam, to forcing installation of unwanted spyware without the user knowing.
In most cases, changing the password of the Hotmail account that you use to communicate on WLM will resolve the issue of your computer being a part of the botnet. I've never seen actual infected files before. Are the files truly related to Messenger? And what virus protection do you have? I recommend Avast, and if you think you have some infected registry keys, a copy of Spybot. At this point, considering reformatting isn't worth the trouble of doing, cleansing your system of the infection is much easier from what you've described. |
Changing the password has not worked. I know cos my friend's on MSN twenty four, seven and he's been really helpful in telling me whether I'm still spamming the msg's or not, which I still am. -.-;
Reformatting wouldn't be a huge issue for me since I don't have too much on my comp at this point. Funny thing is that I wasn't the one who initially clicked the link; My bro did, but I somehow caught it on my MSN acc. (We shared comps earlier this year.) Maybe that'll give you an idea of what the virus is, cos I honestly have no idea what it's called. >.>; |
You need to uninstall MSN Messenger and change your password, and then Reinstall MSN Messenger.
|
No, that hasn't worked either. I'm relatively sure that the prob is in both my MSN acc and my comp as well.

just reformat the PC.
be sure to print the files you need u can't copy them from a memory stick or CD or a backup because is will become infected... ---------- Post added at 06:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:50 AM ---------- Quote:

Print the files? How do I do that? o.o
Can't I just scan my D drive, (Where all my files are.) delete all traces of the virus and copy them to a memory stick? |
uhh...
If the virus spreads fast it will go to your memory stick upon detection.. |

You REALLY don't have to reformat. You can easily kill the virus manually; go onto Google and search for your problem specifically. How you got infected, what are the characteristics of your infection. Get a good antivirus on-hand too (I really only would trust Avast, Kapersky, Nod32). If you're infected in too many places somehow though and really want to reformat, that's up to you. If you haven't in a couple years that wouldn't be such a bad thing anyway, lol. |
