It’s pretty clear that Cheney is in

the process of consolidating his power.
Everybody in the CIA that halfway challenged him on the 9/11- Saddam

Hussein connection is on their way out. One of his former aids (Stephen Hadley) will be the new national security

advisor. And most importantly, strong willed, independent minded Colin Powell is being replaced with the ever

compliant Condi Rice.
I’ll be surprised if one of Cheney’s cronies doesn’t end up being the new Energy

secretary.
The only real mystery is whether Cheney will let Bush appoint one of his evangelical friends as

Secretary of Education.

I'm not saying this situation proves anything, but am just putting it out there for

people to think about and respond to if they feel so inclined.

We may never know the CIA's role in the days

leading up to the Iraq invasion, for example. But I've seen indications since 9/11 that the CIA felt pressured to

deliver whatever information they were expected to have. We also may never know the real reasons for all the

resignations.
