Does anybody else...?

Does anybody else think this is just wrong?

I mean... its not so much that they are making a film about people who can genuinely be thought of as heros.. But more an issue that these people's lives are being dramatized when their living relatives are still alive, and (presumably) still mourning?

Its not the story.. its the timing.. It just seems wrong.

Either way, your thoughts are appreciated.

I dunno, the families of the victims of United 93 approved this movie. It was in Newsweek or Time last week.

I agree with you... even 5 years after 9/11 it still feels a bit too soon. Did they make a movie of the Oklahoma City bombing? The USS Cole?

What bothers me about is...Does anybody really know what happened on that flight? It's a work of fiction.

Oliver Stone is also coming out with a 9/11 movie.

It was bound to happen. As long as they're fairly accurate & don't pound the audience over the head with a hamfisted political agenda, I don't see much wrong (unless the movies otherwise suck, in which case I won't watch em).

I guess I feel that its too early for artistic interpretation.

If there is money to be maded someone is going to step in a make that money.. Right?

ditpiler 04-26-2006 12:24 AM

Yeah, but its too bad that we've sunk to the level of trying to make money off a national tragedy less than five years after said event.

Granted I suppose they were making WWII movies right after the conclusion of the war, but I don't think they used real stories for them.. They focused on American bravado rather than individuals who had died.

Ebjjrxrd 04-26-2006 05:38 AM

Well, one WWII flick right off the top of my head is "The Fighting Sullivans", which was a true story about five brothers who all died in the war.

wmcelesta 04-26-2006 06:00 PM

I was just thinking of that movie. It came out in 1944, only 2 years after the brothers were killed, and still one year before the war ended. That being said, it is now acknowledged that it was ultimately a propaganda flick.

I'm a little uneasy at the prospect of any of the 9/11 movies. God alone knows what take Stone will have on the events in his movie.

I find a memorial about an event such as this is an important thing and i can't wait to see it...though i have to wait until my hand heals and i can find a baby sitter *shrugs*

Ebert's review:

It looks harrowing, but I want to see it.

It sure will be hard to watch, but it looks like they did a pretty good job...
