Default Summer Internship...
Hey all-
I've been thinkin about my summer plans today and started to look around for places to work that would (1) fit my major/career path and (2) possibly be in some way related to the automotive industry. I'm a Communication major, with minors in advertising and Spanish; for a long time I've been looking at a career in advertising, but I've recently decided to check out the client side of marketing/advertising (i.e. the marketing department of a company) instead of an actual ad agency.
So I applied for a marketing internship at Ford today which would be great experience and pays well but which would most likely force me to relocate to Dearborn, Mich. for the summer. It sounded like an awesome deal... now I'm probably too excited than I should be about it, since there's probably a very slim chance I'll end up getting the internship.
Anyway, I've been investigating other possibilities...obviously internships are available at most large companies, but has anyone heard of somewhere in particular that hires a lot of interns, any specific programs of note, or somewhere with a fun work environment? Also, if there are any industry professionals in the house, do you have any practical advice about selling myself in the automotive world?

JetBlue is the sh**!!
I've been thinking about aplying to an internship at a company that produces UAVs (Unmaned assult vehicle, I think) in the Columbia River Gorge, in Oregon for the summer. It's for students interested in engineering, however, and that's not the field I'm currently interested in going into.
Later, I wouldn't mind getting an internship at an airline. I would like to go into the airline business someday.

Nor would I, really. I think an Airline would be a great place to work... and you sure get some nice perks! Plus there are plenty of opportunities in my field (marketing/communication)
It'd be especially nice to work at an airline with a laid-back atmosphere, like Southwest or, yes, JetBlue.

If you are thinking for an internship at jet blue, you might want to try one with the competition as well. Perhaps Song or Hooters Air mighthave something worth checking out.

Song is going out of business and being absorbed into Delta. :/
JetBlue, AirTran, and Southwest all have laid back atmospheres from what I understand. I bet that the future airline of Virgin America will be pretty laid back and fun too.
Anyhow, go luck with the search!

But then that's a good thing for long-haul domestic Delta passengers after Song's absorption is complete.

I've wrestled with that one... obviously--speaking from the soul, here--car design would be my dream, above any other profession.
It's just that I feel like, at 21 years old, I'm so behind the curve that it would hardly be worth pursuing at this point in life. Art Center is right up in Pasadena, and looking at schools my mom made me go tour it; and WOW, was I floored. On one hand I was like "Holy crap... this is me, this is what I want to do"; but on the other hand, I saw how much farther ahead all of these students were than me, and it just kind of depressed me. I've never taken an art class (not since elementary school anyway) which I feel was one of my absolute stupidest decisions, and I feel like that lack of experience--and knowledge of the fundamentals/basics--would really prevent any realistic chance of me (a) getting into a good design program and (b) succeeding in the field.
So, yeah, as amazing as an internship in design would be, it's way beyond me. I've just come to accept that, and have instead chosen a career path which would put me in daily contact with that kind of creativity and design (advertising) or cars (automotive industry).
Sorry for the life story... I feel like I'm in the "confessions" thread
