Local 145 of the American Federation of Musicians is also holding their election this saturday.

I don't have time to argue the merits of membership in this post (although I'm sure I'll HAVE to in the comment thread) cause I'm late for a chiropractor appointment, but I will say this. Musicians tend to be a pretty maverick bunch. We're generally not organization minded, and we make lousy union members. But it's been my experience that when people band together and organize, they tend to be more successful at getting what they want. When they stand alone, they often to get screwed.

As I recall, Larry Campbell was supposed to be a friend to musicians too. To prevent a repeat performance of that little excersize in futility, I'd suggest electing a slate of candidates at local 145 who are committed to getting in the face of WHOEVER is elected mayor and demanding that the arts get a fair shake in this town.
