Police ID Suspect In 'Cell Phone Bandit' Robberies
Arrest Warrant Issued For Martinez Police have issued an arrest warrant for a woman who they believe is the so-called "cell phone bandit" who talked on a cell phone while allegedly robbing several area banks in northern Virginia. Candice Rose Martinez, 19, of Chantilly, Va., was charged with one count of robbery. Loudoun County officials said Martinez should be considered armed and dangerous. Police identified Martinez as the woman apparently talking on a cell phone during robberies at four Wachovia banks between Oct. 12 and Nov. 4. In three of the cases, a woman entered the bank talking on a cell phone and holding a box that had the hold-up note attached to it. The robberies occurred Oct. 12 in Vienna, Oct. 21 in Prince William County and Oct. 22 in Fairfax County. The last robbery was on Nov. 4 at a Wachovia in Loudoun County. The robber was described as a Hispanic woman in her early to mid-20s, about 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 120 to 130 pounds. She is well-spoken with a slight Hispanic accent. The latest robbery happened Nov. 4 in Ashburn, Va. In that case detectives said she did not have a box, but did display a handgun and handed the teller a note. Anyone with information on Martinez’s whereabouts should call Crime Solvers at (866) 411-TIPS or the police non-emergency number at (703) 691-2131. Investigators said they're not sure if she's actually talking to someone on the phone or just pretending. They also won't speculate on why she chose only Wachovia branches. she was also heard yelling on her phone "giiiirrrrrrrrl no he di'int! oh mah gah!!" |
