Polygraphs are only as useful as, and wholly dependant upon, the expertise of the examiner.
Even with a true expert, there are many things that can be done by the subject to skew a polygraph exam. I never trusted them, and on at least two occasions, got a case "kicked" and the defendant released via old-fashoned investigative techniques. The true value of a poly is in the intimidation and anxiety factor. Good for getting confessions. I'll never take one for any reason other than entertainment. I wonder if this new stomach-reading thingie would show that I can only produce 1/3 of a lie... 'cause I only have 1/3 of my stomach, and even then, it's not where they'd expect a stomach to be? ![]() |
