Weird question I know, and I know the majority of members on here are male, but wondering if anyone knows how effective the pill is at stopping women getting pregnant? Only reason I ask is that my latest women hates condoms and reckons it'll be fine as she's on the pill!

Anyone help?

It's no 'common misconception', Steve. Again, these are small studies, but I wouldn't break a sweat about it. The transfer of STDs is far more likely, though.

Steve, read my posts. Or maybe I was too ambiguous. The fluid itself does not contain sperm. However, if the lucky guy just had a date with his right hand or is on his second turn, it's only logical that some leftover fluid may be in the urinary duct.

Yep, we've been just nitpicking and hijacked the thread, eh Steve? But I have to agree with here. The condom is the way to go since you never know if you can rely on your partner or not. But if you were in a long term relationship, Prod, I'd look up IUDs.

from what I've heard, its about 99 percent effective if taken properly. Of course, you need to trust your partner before letting her get on the pill instead of condoms. if you want complete effectiveness, she needs to take them exactly by the instruction without missing anything.

But if you want to be sure yourself, you should go see a doctor. They will tell you exactly how effective they are and which one is recommended.

So to sum up then, it's 99.9% safe to have sex without a condom if she's taking the pill (and following the timing strictly) but there is still a risk.

Keep in mind that the pill is only designed to prevent pregnancy, not STDs. If you're in a serious relationship and know both you and your partner are clear then it's not something to worry about (but still good to know).

If I were you I'd still wear a condom plus the birth control. Even if the pill is 99.9% effective or whatever, it only takes one time for it not to work. Better safe then sorry IMO.

Do both. It's better to have two safety measures instead of one, even if the risk is almost nil. It feels just about the same, and both partners are protected. I mean, sure STD's are bad, but if you're in a serious and monogamic relationship there shouldn't be a huge risk. That said, children are the worst kind of sexually transmitted infection. =)
