What did you do to your computer or the iPod.

i dont think you can do that. if u do one then u cant do the other cuz then u have to uninstall it on one computer and install it on the other. i dont think the songs transfer cuz theyre saved on one computer. unless u send ur playlist to the other computer then it wont be on both.
y do u want it on 2 comps anyway.
but, what u can do, is take ur ipod to someone elses computer and take songs off of that playlist
its very weird.

I just installed the ITUNES program and ipod updater and it formatted my ipod.

I got it to work. The Format for windows wasnt completely installed. Now I will try and use it on my mac.If not ill just burn all the songs on my mac to a cd and then download them to my PC.Thanks for the help anyways!

Perhaps you could change the firmware? You would probably lose your songs switching firmware like that, but thats the only way I could think of, and even then I'm not sure that it would work. This is honestly the first time I've heard of this problem come up. You might want to search around though, I'm sure someone else has had this problem.

You can only format it to work with a PC or with a Mac. You can't get it to work with both.

Whatever you did, you messed up the file system on its hard drive. I've done this to my iPods many times (don't ask) - you need to do something called a "Software Restore." Go to "Macintosh HD (or whatever else you renamed your main hard drive) -> Applications -> Utilities -> iPod Software Updater and choose the most recent software. (Should be 2005-06-26) Plug in the iPod and click "Restore." You will lose everything on the HD, but your iPod should function again. Hopefully you keep a backup (if not you should - storage is cheap as dirt these days be it DVD-R or external hard drives dropping below $1/GB) but if not, all you will lose is any illegal music - I'm pretty sure iTunes lets you re-download songs you have paid for and CD's can be ripped again.
FYI - It IS possible to use a Windows formatted iPod with a Mac, but not the other way around.
PS - Try to chill out next time you post... its just an iPod dude - it doesn't have any magical powers. Not to mention that iPods are notoriously unreliable - at least Apple fixes them for free no questions asked for a full year. (During which I had to do once with my most recent and my brother has had to 3 times.) If its broken then dust off that old Discman and deal for a few days. Hell, you can even wear your crappy white headphones with it if it makes you happy.
Oh and a slightly off-topic question for anyone else who might have a Mac (not an x86 running a bootleg of Xtel) - have you guys been able to boot into Linux from your iPod HD? Should work, but I've been too lazy to try it. Oh and sorry for implying that all Mac owners have at least one iPod, but it seems to be the case, haha.

Cool - glad to hear it didn't have to go back to Apple.
iTunes on your Mac may not like it too much - BUT - it should show up as an external hard drive. If that is the case, save yourself a CD and just move them over to Windows on the iPod. The iPod might not be able to PLAY the songs during this process, but the actual files will move over.

I wouldn't call them unreliable. (as a matter of fact I had no problems with my recently replaced 1.5 year old 3rd gen). Like most consumer electronics, they have their problems. (just ask any owner of sony's mp3 hdd line, which has horrible quality control).
