I suspect the snake was in it's nest and it was trying to protect it's eggs/chicks.

The number of bites that woodpecker took should have killed it surely [surrender]

I guess that would depend on the kind of snake it was but I wish these people had filmed the entire thing as Im wondering what might have happened.

Was probably a boa constrictor or something.

Took me a while to watch the vid, was busy watching the naked French girls...

It was just a boa after the woodpecker's eggs. Most animals put their life on the line for their young, and that tree snake wouldn't have done any damage to the woodpecker anyway unless it got a good hold of it.

edit, you know the saying "cat like reflex's" well...

Cat grabbed it in it's mouth, just behind the head, as far as I can make out, when freezing it.

Anyone able to identify the snake, BTW?

For the ignorant in terms of herpetology, it´s not a boa but a common (yellow bellied) puffing snake, or better said Pseustes Sulphureus

Anyone able to identify the snake, BTW?
In case of the cat vid, i think it´s a common rat snake, Pantherophis guttatus but i´m not to sure.
