Default school??
So I am thinking on going back to school. And one school I really have my eye on is ITT. Does anyone have any views on ITT? Cause I want to go to a school that is more hands on learning then book work. I want to go for electronics, working on circuit chips, motherboards am stuff. So did anyone go to ITT Tech?

I'm not sure you know what you want. I have several friends who are in Engineering co-op, Comp Sci, at various universities or are in the actual field working already for companies like RIM, Microsoft, and NVidia.

Circuit chips and motherboards, anyone can do. That stuff is outsourced to China and India. I would really suggest you do more research into what it is you want to do in electronics. Because if you want to work with "electronics, circuits, and motherboards", all that tells me is you have no idea what you want to do.

Finally, I will say this, ITT is horrible. They want money, they could care less about you. I have heard so many stories about how horrible the place is. Also, book work is essential. Colleges and Universities require you to do book work and practical stuff, because that is what will make you better.

You're gonna have a very hard time getting employed, I guarantee you, if you go with ITT. I am assuming you are an adult who has never attended post-secondary education, so my suggestion to you, is to apply to a college as a mature student. This way you will get a lot of practical experience, the book stuff [which is needed], and will actually be able to land a job.

yea ITT is pretty overpriced

your local state community collage might be a better alternative

or you can go the certification route. real world experience + certifications you pick up along the way can be more valuable than a community collage or ITT degree with no actual experience

Of course the last option is to join the military and focus as much as you can on the ability to take classes within for free. I have a friend who has been in the Marines for the last 6 years, has been taking networking classes the whole time, and has never been deployed. YMMV

I live in youngstown, Ohio. Their are some schools around here. But I want to go to a school where I go to learn my field and some classes that you need to take. But some of the school that I see where you take your main course then take classes that are not even related to you field of career. I don't want that.

No one in the computer science or engineering field will pay you any attention for your ITT diploma. You need to either go to a real school or get a ton of experience.

Well does anyone live in or near youngstown, Ohio that can give me a good idea of what school to go to. Like I said before I want to go to a school and take my main class and other classes that are related to the field. Cause I don't want to go to a school for a field and take a bunch of classes that ain't even related to the field. Like if I go for computers, I shouldn't have to take music class or something stupid like that, that isn't even related to computers.

If your primary concern is "don't want to waste your time" then you need to really consider if you are serious about continuing your schooling. All schooling involves some level of pointlessness and redundancy. Pretty sure ITT or [specialized tech school of your] choice has just as much overall "unneeded blah" as anywhere else.

Getting into IT in general, unless you are really good or know someone who can hook you up to get started, can be hard. I think I might have been lucky and mine was still a pretty tough road.

That said I REALLY like working with computers and expensive toys. I get to deploy SQL clusters with awesome new servers. When I do my weeks onsite it is pretty cool doing the installation and training knowing that for that week I am a pretty important person in the facility because I am the ultimate expert on one tiny corner of a huge network that is being rolled out.
