Default Looking for title of a film
I remember watching this on TV back in 1996 or 1997, so it was made before that date. Here is what I can remember about that film:

- It has fantasy elements
(can't remember the exact order of events)
- There are scenes with air balloons.
- A group of people are swallowed by a whale but survive
- They also travel to the moon where they meet the 'moon king'. The moon king's head can fly about.
- They escape from the moon back to Earth by tying a rope to the edge of the moon (it was a crescent) and climbing down. But the rope breaks and they fall to Earth and survive.
- At the end of the film, one of the characters gets shot and dies (and a grim reaper claims his soul ).

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0096764/

"The fantastic tale of a 17th century aristocrat, his talented henchmen and a little girl in their efforts to save a town from defeat by the Turks. Being swallowed by a giant sea-monster, a trip to the moon, a dance with Venus and an escape from the Grim Reaper are only some of the improbable adventures"

Oh, they didn't fall to Earth but to Venus. I remembered wrongly.
Thanks to information from all of you, I managed to rewatch it

Haha, I got as far as your second bullet-point, and from "fantasy elements" and "hot air balloons" i thought it must be The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, what an awesome film, brings back memories of childhood

Don't see any smilies or white text - was that comment serious as it shows complete ignorance if so?

This wouldn't be a Baron Von Munchausen movie would it? That would certainly fit the crazy description you provided.

Josef Goebbels, Reich minister of Propaganda in Nazi Germany, is the one that ordered the film to be made.

actually from what I can see it looks like the newer one most of rus remember is a rip off of the german film. heck, it even has the baron riding on a canonball on the cover of the german film. I am sure terry gilliam took some libertys with modernizing a little compared to the old one, and getting rid of the propaganda aspect, but still they seem to be similar.
