Default In-Laws for sale, really cheap & partly crazy
I've always loved my wife, apart from the affair last year, and I've always been supportive no matter what, but I'm coming to the end of my rope.

I have had to put up with her parents for over 20 years and I've had enough. These people have been attached to us, follow us, and make our normally happy lives miserable and I've had enough.

It has taken my wife and I years and a lot of hard work to get where we are today financially and her parents continue to drag us down. I'll provide an example below.

Example:

My father-in-law ran away for another woman two years ago. During this time my mother-in-law lost her house, and pretty much everything but her job. My wife and I decided to move into a larger house and rent our smaller house to her mom. She's been there about a year and a half and she has ruined the place. It's infested with fleas, she moved in with 3 cats and since she didn't get them fixed it quickly turned into 18. She didn't clean the cat boxes so they proceeded to crap and pee all over the house, so now the house smells like a big unclean cat box. My MIL also didn't tell us when there was a leak upstairs in the sink and now the drop ceiling in the kitchen below is covered with black mold, we had a plumber out and he fixed the problem in less than 30 minutes for less than $90. But now the kitchen ceiling is ruined.

At this point I don't know what in the hell else to do. We tried selling the place, but that obviously failed, seriously who would buy a place in that condition?

All I can think of doing now is filing for bankruptcy and washing my hands of the whole thing.

We don't have enough money to fix it up now so that it'll be presentable to sell.

Does anyone have any ideas? Other than taking a hit out on my in-laws of course.

Maybe someone who's good in the real estate business.....

Wow...you have my sympathies...the cat cr@p would be more than I could stand.

okay...I guess I would say this:
1. Tell MOL that the cats have to go (maybe one)
2. Replace the carpet with some inexpensive carpet
3. Call your insurance company to report the water damage so that they will pay for the ceiling repair/paint, etc now that the plumping is fixed (I had a leak in the shower and the insurance company paid for the water damage on the hard wood floor (of course, I didn't think the floor was all that bad so I used the money to fix the shower
4. Start visiting MOL to keep an eye on the place (I guess I feel sorry for the victim of a cheater so I'm not ready to suggest you kick her out--think of it as helping yourself get into heaven for your sacrifices here on earth)

You know what? I re-read my post and I forgot to mention that out of the blue my FIL came back a month ago.

The cats are now all gone and my MIL and FIL have gotten an over the road team driving job so they're hardly ever home now. But the task of cleaning up that house is still daunting.

Good idea about the insurance, I'm going to try that one today.

Wow, just... wow.

I can't imagine how you've stayed sane (if you have).

I hope the insurance thing works for you... if not maybe someone else can come up with good ideas to get the place fixed up.

It's hard to stay sane I tell you.

When my wife and I moved out here 11 years ago from CA, were now in MD, they followed us. Then two years later they moved into the row house that was two doors down. Imagine living no more than 25 feet from your in-laws who you despise.

It's gotten so bad, and I realize my wife had an affair last year, that I'm ready to throw in the towel on our marriage.
