So... I work for a security company, and my boss signed me up for a whopper of an event tonight.
It's a Transexual, Transgender, and Cross Dressing convention. Yeah.... So basically what I'm asking is am I correct in thinking that you address the person depending on what they're wearing? If they're wearing women's clothes it's obviously ma'am right? What about the transexual/transgendered people, same deal right? This normally isn't our type of work, but I guess the other company in town didn't want to touch this event and well it's easy money and my boss enjoys ****ing with me. I just wanted to make sure I had the "termonology" down right before I go... lol Any insights? |

Pop some extasy, do a couple lines of cocaine, drink some stout martinis and just dance to the techno. Let them address you.
Sounds like a fun time. Just remember, they're not really women. ________ HERBAL VAPORIZER |

Safest bet would be to address them by the gender of appearance.
But it's not as if you are going to refer to them in the 3rd person when you are talking to them. You'll hopefully get the info you need when asking their name or clarifying the guest list. But knowing your luck you'll get a load of Alex's, Drew's, Pat's, Sam's, etc lol ![]() From my experience, my patients prefer to be called by the gender they wish to become - regardless of what stage they are anatomically/medically. Difficult for us - as they always come into the Practice attracting the least amount of attention. So quite often their appearance is opposite to their desired gender. TBH in doubt - I just ask them - they appreciate the fact that you are actually thinking about it! At a convention and in the presence of like-minded individuals, I'd expect they may be less reserved than everyday life and you may see men dressed as women and vice-versa. Not a great help because it is a difficult situation to be in and one you can't apply a rulebook for every scenario or person. But if it was me: If I saw man dressed as women - I would address as female. If I saw a woman dressed as a man - I would address as a male. If I was unsure or they were dressed normally - I would address as per apparent gender. Enjoy... should be interesting. Let us know how it turns out. |

I'm with megatron. I'd just address them with the gender they wish to appear as. Best way to make things go smooth IMO and show you're not so rigid.
It would be an interesting night for sure. The other day I passed some sort of gay clubbing function for Good Friday during the day. Interesting mix of people hanging outside. lol. |

If I saw man dressed as women - I would address as female. It'll be an interesting night for sure. Still kinda pissed off because my boss pretty much booked this as a joke on me, but I'd much rather go home and spend Easter with my family (which is like a 6 hour drive away) and it looks like since I'll be working so late I'll miss Easter dinner with them. He could have thrown one of the other guys on it if they weren't complete dumbasses... Bah. |

I had a roommate who swung that way, and I believe he would have preferred to be called "miss" in... those situations?
The real trick comes when you get the ones who dress for the opposite gender but then make absolutely no other attempt at it. As a cashier at my old job there was a guy who came in wearing a dress and a purse every day, but he never shaved his arms or legs, had a large bald spot, facial hair, and a deep manly voice. I'd say that one was a him instead of a her, despite the dress... |

Well, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Hear me out on this one, but a gay/lesbian mixer is a great place to pick up women!
Okay, think about it this way, lots of gay guys have smoking hot girl friends. The gay guys drag their girl friends to the function, so you've got a room full of gay men, lesbians, and straight women--but you're the only straight man there. BRILLIANT! [rofl] And yes, they were really women, a few of the drunker ones even provided me with proof so to speak. It was funny, because most of the gay/lesbian people at the event already knew me, or I knew them through all my other security work so it was basicly all people I knew and knew me which I think made some of the people who weren't "out" feel comfortable which made the night go by nice. I've already told my boss that I called working their next meeting.. [rofl] |
