This. I moisten it with water sometimes if the dry cloth doesn't seem to be doing it.

If you're going to use IPA (IsoPropyl Alochol) don't go overboard and use the stuff straight up first. I'd recommend at least dilutting it 50:50, if not less to begin with. While IPA isn't really all that strong, you never know how it's going to react with something glossy, and an expensive TV isn't the place to be taking chances. So if I were you and you're gung ho on using IPA, dilute it 50:50 and then test it in an inconspicous place.

I use these wipes on my desktop monitor and keyboard, laptop display and in general, PS3, LCD TV, and studio monitors.

And dilute it with distilled water too, that way the alcohol won't react with any minerals in the ordinary tap water that might leave stains behind on the surface your cleaning.

Good idea thanks. I've cleaned it with regular tap water before and it's left marks. Maybe this alcohol/distilled water mix will lift those marks too.

How to clean this LCD TV (plastic parts, not screen)

How can I clean this? It appears that my TV has a fine layer of oily-ness over it (my roommate cooks everything he eats on an open fry pan with cooking oil and it gets everywhere, creating a film across everything in our place). I'm trying to clean the plastic portion, which has a very shiny piano black finish on it. I'm assuming its a bad idea to use 409 or something like that on plastic.

As long as you don't get it on the screen your probably ok using some pure alcohol, but make sure to test it on somewhere that's not too visible first.

Its generally Petroleum Distillates that destroys plastics so pure alchohol should be fine and will get rid of the oily-ness.

I then suggest a cotton bed sheet or cover to throw over the TV when your not using it, keeps the dust off and any other crap that's in the air.
