What's the tallest building in the US?

If you answered The Sears Tower you're wrong: http://news.uk.msn.com/uk/article.as...entid=15025271

As someone with, shall we say, close ties to this news what does everyone here think of this move?

As a brit I always held Sears Tower in a group of famous US landmarks such as Empire State, Golden Gate Bridge etc and can't imagine how well this would go down your side of the pond.

tss.. what a redicoulus thing...and one ugly helluva name as well.

I been into the Sears Tower and it's always been named the Sears Tower. That a name is being changed ( due money why else).. screw that. [thumbdown]

Interesting. I don't really care either way.

It would only be acceptable if it was named after Bruce.

Well the Sears tower wont be the tallest in the US for much longer. It will be replaced by another building in Chicago. The Chicago Spire. http://www.thechicagospire.com/ should be over 600m tall. So it's at least 150m taller than Sears.

It's under construction already at the stage of still being a hole in the ground.

Actually I just thought I'd google to see how it's progressing and construction is halted! http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune....icago-spi.html
LOL @ the suggestions as to what Chicago could do with a big hole if the thing never gets built. I hope it does as it would be a magnificent addition to the skyline.

Doesn't matter. The thing is a building from the 70's is only renamed because a "big shot" thinking he is having the money and conections to do so.

The name represents the building and it was born together with it. Just like you!

Exactly. It's not about just renaming the building for $. If Sears were still the primary company occupying floor space then they would get their name on it. This other group is going to be the major occupier of the space so just like Sears slapped their name on the building this other mob now have the right to put another name on it.

Better than making it an empty building where they might think about tearing it down.

Sears Tower = Good
Willis Tower = Lame
Bruce Willis Tower = Best Name Ever
