is there a map and directions utility available offline?
 
is there such a thing? something like google maps or mapquest but available offline that could be on your laptop while traveling. anyone know?

There are, though you'll have to pay for them. In fact, up until a couple years ago they only existed offline and weren't available online. http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/laugh1.gif I've no idea which one you would have to get though, I suggest checking out your local software business.

I'd suggest getting a GPS unit instead.

You have to pay for it, but before we got a gps with a screen we used microsoft streets and trips ( I think is the name) and a gps hooked up to the laptop.

eventually i will get a headunit with navi when i have money, but for now i just use a map book for local and i want the map software for when im traveling.

qall u need is auto route 2007 with gps add on and a usb gps

job done,I think you can even buy it bundled with a gps usb dongle in the retail package
