LCD being layed flat...DO the crystals need to settle for 72 hours before using

Hi guys.

Just purchased my new LCD a while ago, but unfortunately had to lay it flat in transit as It was to big to fit in the car upright. I`ve been told to leave the display upright for 72 hours to let the crystals settle. Now I have heard this before, is there any truth in this matter? If so is 72 hours a correct approximation? to me it sounds a little extreme.

Thanks.

That can't be true. When my laptop is closed, the LCD is flat. The crystals don't move so I don't see how they would need time to settle.

hmmm good point. I just need to make sure before I do anything. It`s the brand new Samsung LE46A656 model, was a bit of money so I need to check and check again lol...wouldnt want to foook it up by being impatient

You can move it in all directions.. flat, upside down, tilt, no matter what.

Just don't throw with it or bumb against anything with it.

Follow your common sense and no stories, than you'll be fine. I think you are a common sense person Tony [yes]

I've never heard such rubbish, if an LCD can get damaged by turning them on after lying them flat it wouldn't have ever made it into the market as a commercial product.

You have nothing to worry about. Even the instructions for my Samsung LCD tells me to lay it down flat to install the stand. http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/laugh1.gif

I think whoever told you that confused an LCD with a fridge...

Or they may have confused it with a plasma set? (Which you can't lay down at all)

hey!

tell us how the screen is? [thumbup]
ordered my Sammy 46A6 aswell... should arrive in a couple of weeks!... lovely screen.

Anyway... I haven't heard of any claim about settling the screen!...as the point already mentioned is with the laptops!

Nah, that's not strictly true either... The reason they don't recommend lying down plasma screens is due to the fact that the screen is made from glass, which can be prone to breaking if bumped while lying flat. This applies more to ones with huge screens, but if you're careful and the screen isnt' too big there shouldn't be a problem.

Edit: you certainly don't have to let it settle for 72 hours afterwards anyway!

True, I should have said shouldn't instead of can't. Though with 3 panes of glass close together, I wouldn't take the chance [help]
