Poking some fun at GTA

Will all the GTA excitement going on, I thought this commercial nod at the games popularity was appropriate.

(shrug) Not at any movies I ever went to http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/smile1.gif

Sorry to the ardent moviegoers, but the fact some have seen it does not mean everyone has. It's new to me, for instance.

Edit: On the other hand, I have been to about 4 movies in the last two years.....we rent or buy DVD's instead. It might be safe to guess there are others who avoid movies as well. http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/laugh1.gif

Yeah, I also havent been frequenting the movies lately. For one, there just arent any decent movies that come out anymore, and with the ability to pay 30$/mo and get unlimited Blu-ray/DVD rentals....well that combined with having a great HT setup there just is no reason to go to the movies anymore.

You must not go to movie theaters backed by Coke then... They basically played that commercial before every movie I've seen (and other commercials like that too, like the polar bears with penguins or the magical small world inside a Coke machine).

Anyways, I wasn't bashing your post. I was just saying that it's been out for about two years, therefore it has nothing to do with GTAIV hype.

Good commercial though. One of my favorites from Coke. [yes]

No offense taken. I would mention that of the commercials you mentioned, I only have a vague recollection of the bear one, and none at all of the others. I have mentioned in other threads though that when commercials are shown at movies, I tend to close my eyes, plug my ears and hum. I am pretty adamant about not going to the movies and paying to see commercials. http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/laugh1.gif http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/blush1.gif http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/blush1.gif

I didn't know it was quite so old, though. I posted it as a nod to GTA hype in general, which included this game but not exclusively. (I was careful about the title) I hope somebody out there gets a kick out of it, though my hopes for that were last seen racing, gun in hand toward the Cloverfield monster. http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/smile1.gif

Used to be, there was a loo-o-o-ng delay between a movie and a DVD release but nowadays it seems I hear about a movie and before I can blink, its at Blockbuster or something. About 30 seconds after that its at the local service station, used for $9.99

Considering how expensive movies are for a whole family (plus popcorn and such and probably dinner afterward) staying away and getting the used DVD makes better sense on about 50 different levels. We can only be lured to the theaters now for "blockbusters" and sometimes not then, either.

I must have seen that commercial 10 times before in the theatre

Yeah my wife, my freind and myself decided to "go out to the movies" the other night. The tickets were 7.50$ each, drinks were 3$ each and popcorn was about 3$. The whole outing cost 35$!!! The next night we watched a movie in my living room, 28 days later blu-ray, and the picture quality was better than at the theatre, we could pause to use the restroom, and we could sprawl out on the couch or floor. Also, with it being a smaller room, my stereo produces a higher quality of sound for the size of the space compared to the worn down stereo at the theatre. The price for watching it at home was 30$/mo for unlimited movie renatals...so about $0.50 for the night.

All in all....it was a waste of 35$ despite the movie being very good, " The Frobidden Kingdom."

But yes, we do still try to go to the theatre for the "big stuff."

ovH9wfSJ 04-27-2008 08:59 PM

I never seen that commercial before. Of course I haven't went to a movie theater in over 12 years.

mygalinasoo 04-27-2008 10:05 PM

I think like a lot of things, the profit motive has squeezed the fun out of going to the movies. At about $10 per person for the four of us, that is nearly $40 right there.

In the end we can easily spend over $100 on a "movie night" and the theater experience is just not good enough to justify that amount of money with any sort of frequency.
