Volvo is owned by Ford. Hopefully GM will never get their hands on Volvo, they'd ruin it like they killed Saab.

Well Saab is turning around very nicely and I like their current offerings. The Turbo X is also a killer! Plus new models are on their way. Personally I have liked with what they have recently done with Saab. Didn't care for them much till 2003. Buddy has a 2000 Saab and I don't care much for it.

Though I would pick the CTS. CTS won car of the year, and against the 5-Series in a Euro review, CTS won. Plus my buddy owns a 3-series and it isn't very comfortable at all, so with the 5-Series being basically the same, I would expect the same.
CTS looks better, cheaper, more power, cheaper maintanance, so how can you so no?

So your implying that a car is only good if it's developed in Europe?

I doubt it since good cars are also being devoled in Japan.

Well, you're an American. The interior Saab has now looks cheaply made and the design is totally GM/US style now. They look more like Opel (also owned by GM) than Saab. No offense intended.

No, not at all. There are good american cars but there is certainly a distinct difference in cars which are designed or tuned in Europe,

Default 2009 Caddilac CTS-V, man its sexy!
http://media.gm.com/us/gm/en/news/ev...V_Overview.htm

highlights:
550hp 550lb-ft
6 speed manual or auto w/ paddles
magnetic ride control
recaro racing seats
4200lbs(man)-4300(auto)

http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-s...-v-undisguised

And the interior is something I've fallen in love with after just one picture.
http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.au...09ca_ct019.jpg

Sure, its not going to be the most able handling car with its weight, however 12's with a 4door family car thats stock sounds good to me. I say it needs a supercharger now. 700hp 4door sedan sounds mighty fine to me.

I'm wondering why no one jumps in with a light weight car that isn't full of all kinds of "lazy driver" devices and runs away with the highe performance yet easy on gas angle.

No wonder modern cars are so horrible on gas, they weigh so damn much.

Becuase this is a full size family sedan. Its main game is NOT out handling the sports cars. Its got a sporty ride, but it really wouldn't compete with something 1500lbs lighter than itself. It will however cruise with ease even at speeds over 100mph. Weight is not a detriment to terminal speed, only to acceleration, braking, and cornering.

Caddy or an M5? I like the caddies looks more, and its domestic so its going to be cheaper to maintain in the US. The Caddy will also be cheaper with a msrp of about $60,000 from what I've read, so its about $20,000 cheaper than the M5.

In this price class its more about personal taste, if you can afford to drop 60k on a car, you can most likely stretch another 20k out of it. I much prefer the Caddy's looks over the M5. The m5 just feels to bland for me.

Then again, seeing as how i won't be affording either of the two for a long, long time I really can't argue. I have driven a CTS-V in 2005 and it was a blast, I also had a chance at a M5. My opportunity to drive both cars came at a press event when they setup auto-x courses in large parking lot. At the same event I got my hands on the 05' GTO, Z06, Z51 vette, several AMG Mercs and BMW's. It was a blast to drive all of them.

Fuel consumption was what i was mentioning actually,I'm sure we could have something every bit as capable and probably comfortable too, only weighing quite a bit less than 4200lb's.

I love the CTS, always have. It just looks better now.

How typical of this thread that a majority of those who say it's hideous aren't from the US, and the few who like it are from the US. Afaik, Motor Trend gave the CTS the Car of the Year award, even over the BMW M5.

Not to say the other cars are hideous. I quite like that Grange posted earlier, and would gladly drive it as I would an M5.

Well I like the CTS and I'm from Finland...
And I would take one over M5... Never seen a CTS here, but have seen lots of M5s...

I'd have been disappointed with the amount of detailing that had gone into the radiator grill if I was nine years old and it had come out of a cellophane fronted box.

That's a cool car. Pretty quick for a car with such an unfortunate weight. It should be AWD at that weight LOL. That would make a pretty nice ride for a middle aged guy that wanted a luxury ride with a lot of power on tap (and couldn't afford an Aston)...

And that's exactly why the Caddy is sold in the US, the M5 in Europe and the HSV in Australia. The respective companies aren't dummies, they have some sense of what their market want.
